Implicate – IELTS word of the day

Today’s word from the academic word list is




The main forms of this word are implicate and implication. It is closely related to the word imply and  can be a useful word to use when you are writing about results/effects.

We need to consider the implications fo this proposal carefully.

this could have serious implications for unemployment

there may be wide-ranging/major implications for the care of the elderly

there are possible/potential funding implications

the authorities did not think through the full implication of these proposals

implication as involvement

Another use of the word is for when someone has been involved in an activity – often an illegal one

Several major corporations have been found to be implicated in the dumping of chemical waste
