Top Tips for IELTS


Today’s word of the day is



This is another word for describing change and growth and may be helpful for academic task 1.  It is particularly useful for writing about the economy in essay writing.

Forms of the word

The main forms off the word that you need are:

expand: a verb

expansion: a countable and uncountable noun

expansive: an adjective

Using the word

economy/population/business: It is evident how the economy in China expanded rapidly during this decade.

role/scope: Many schools have expanded the role of teaching staff so that it now includes pastoral care.

rapid/steady etc: There has been a slow but steady expansion of higher and secondary education due to a change in governmental policy.

rate: This rate of expansion slowed considerably in the second half of the period.

room for: While progress has been made in this area, there is still room for expansion.
