Evident – IELTS word of the day

Today’s word from the academic word list is:




  • there are a variety of forms of this word: evident, evidence, evidently and, if you are feeling ambitious, is evidenced by
  • some of the most common collocations are  adverb/advective combinations (an excellent pattern to learn) such as “clearly evident” or “increasingly evident”
  • it is also common to describe the strength of the evidence: “strong” or “compelling evidence” compared to “weak evidence”
  • you might also care to notice the distinction between “evidence” and “proof” and whether the evidence is only “circumstantial” or “documentary”
