Equate – IELTS word of the day

Today’s word from the academic word list is



  • This is one of the more unusual words in the academic word list. It is a more academic variation of “equal” and is used as a verb.
  • Another form of this word is “equation” – which you will probably know from maths
  • A useful idiom is “part of the equation” or “come into the equation” – in this sense, “equation” is used to mean the issue you are considering
  •  both “to” and “with” are frequently used with “equate”

      I’ll see what I can do. For the moment, I am working my way through the academic word list, word by word. I am also though posting vocabulary by topic about once every 10 days. I’ll try and do sport/food in the near future.
