Contract – IELTS word of the day

Today’s word from the academic word list is:



  • there are any number of collocations for this word: you can enter into a contract, sign a contract, have a long-term/two-year contract, break  the terms of a contract or be awarded a contract
  • there are also a number of different prepositions you may come across, including : be under contract, have a contract with someone
  • a non-legal meaning of the word is that “to contract” is the opposite of “to expand”
