Conduct – IELTS word of the day

Today’s word from the academic word list is




  • this is another of those very useful verb/nouns
  • as a noun it is a variation of “behaviour”
  • common collocations include “code of conduct”, “professional conduct” and “improper conduct”
  • as a noun, perhaps the most common phrase is to “conduct yourself”
  • you can conduct an “experiment” or “survey” and conduct is a useful more academic word for the phrasal verb “carry out”
  • there is also a more technical meaning to “conduct an orchestra”
