Concentrate is the IELTS word of the day from the Academic Word List

Notes on Concentrate

The main forms of this word are concentrate, concentrated and concentration. Some of the more common word combinations are:

to concentrate efforts/mind/attention/resources

exclusively/primarily/particularly concentrate on something

Note that the main preposition with concentration is on, although upon is also acceptable

Concentration is an important personal ability:

powers of concentration (how well you can concentrate)

affect your concentration

maintain concentration

It can also, less usually, have the meaning of “centralisation”

the concentration of resources/power

Concentration also has a scientific usage for the quantity of something that is present:

high/low concentration

levels of concentration
