Academic task 1 – a daily exercise

Part 1 writing in the academic module is often a problem for candidates for the very good reason that it is unfamiliar. Most IELTS candidates will have written many essays before they get to prepare for the exam – it’s something everyone goes through at school or university. In contrast, the task of analysing and writing a report on a chart or graph is quite often a new experience. So, while part 1 may be no harder than the essay, it may need more practice.

Where to practise – The Economist

The next problem is to find good practice material – it can be hard to find. I think I may be able to help out. Try The Economist magazine on the internet. It produces a daily chart that is very similar to part 1 IELTS – even better it gives you a short report that should help you with appropriate language. Here is the link

    Hello,
Mr Dominic, I was wondering if you could give me your email so I could send you a few questions and attach a few reports for you to check.
    Thanks!

I have just added a contact form to the site. However, my idea is to use the new Facebook page for this sort of interaction.

This design is incredible! You most certainly know how
to keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and your
videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well,
almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than
that, how you presented it. Too cool!
