Dear Dominic,can you say”amount of refugees”? or “a number “of refugees?
Interesting. A really good comment. Correctly “amount” is only used with countables and so you need “number”. However, “amount of refugees” is good informal English acccording to the Macmillan Dictionary. So, yes you are right “a number of” would have been better here.
