Scheme – IELTS word of the day

Today’s word from the academic word list is:

scheme

Notes

  • The major forms of this word are scheme and schematic
  • Scheme can be used as a verb as well, but generally has a negative meaning “to plot”
  • Scheme is a useful to talk about plans and proposals and is used in such phrases as:

scheme of work

implement a scheme

approve a scheme
  • A more technical usage is to talk about
a pension scheme
  • There is also a useful idiom:
in the grand/overall scheme of things

    Thank you for this post again. That word “Scheme” is very confusing for me, thanks for explaining the different usage of it.
