external

Notes

This is a group of words that can come in useful when you are categorising things: for instance, you can compare and contrast external factors to internal factors. It is particularly useful when discussing cause and effect.

Forms of the word

external: the adjective

externally: the adverb

externalise: the verb

externalisation: the noun

Using the word

factors: We should also remember that there are also external factors that affect how children behave at school.

influence: One external influence on the behaviour of children can be what they see on television.

pressure: Some degree of external pressure may be needed if advertisers are to change their practices.

environment: Very often the external environment, including people they meet at school, has a greater influence on children than their parents have.
