• An extremely useful word that can be used in many contexts. It is a useful variation of “different” and “other”
• The forms of the word you need are alternative and alternatively
• One of  most common phrases it is used in is alternative medicine (and/or remedies and therapies)
• Other common phrases include alternative comedy and alternative theatre and alternative lifestyles; typically these are regarded as being not mainstream
• You can suggest or propose alternatives and these alternatives may be ways, methods or approaches
• Don’t forget alternatively, which can be used with the word or in to replace it
