Today’s word from the academic word list is

acquire

Notes

  • the forms of this word you need are acquire, acquisition and acquisitive
  • be careful with the spelling and don’t forget the “c” before the “q”
  • it is a useful more  academic variation for “get”
  • you typically acquire “skills”, “languages” and “knowledge”
  • a common phrase is to “acquire a taste for something”
  • you can also “make an acquisition”
  • in business/banking there is a field “mergers and acquisitions” which is often abbreviated to M and A
